Men's Basketball Drops Opener of Gabe Miller Classic to Carroll

PLATTEVILLE, Wis. - The Yellowjacket men's basketball team traveled south to Platteville for their opening game of the Gabe Miller Classic hosted by UW-Platteville to play Carroll. After a few close calls last weekend, the 'Jackets looked to earn their first win of the season. The Pioneers thwarted the 'Jackets plans for their first win taking the game 96-69.

Game Notes:

  • The Yellowjackets found themselves trailing much of the first half but not that far out of striking distance.

  • The Pioneers found themselves up 11 points with four minutes remaining in the first half but three pointers from Nick Nordaune (Plymouth, Minn./Wayzata), Eddie Mittermeyer (Cadott, Wis./McDonnell Central Catholic) and Caiden Lecce (Kenosha, Wis./St. Joseph Catholic) had the 'Jackets trailing by only six at the half.

  • In the second half Carroll slowly built their lead with the 'Jackets never cutting the lead lower than six in the half.

  • After the ten-minute mark the 'Jackets were never able to get the Pioneer lead lower than 20 with Carroll leading by as many as 27 which was the final margin in the game.

  • Offensively UWS was led by Rocco Paulson (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East) who had 15 points in the contest. Lecce and Nordaune finished the contest with 13 and ten points respectively.

  • For Carroll, their offense was paced by Michael McNabb, who finished with 20 points.

The Yellowjackets return to action tomorrow in their second game of the Gabe Miller Classic as they face Coe. Tip-off is scheduled for 3 p.m. at Bo Ryan Court in Platteville.
