Yellowjackets Fall to Wisconsin Lutheran 73-61

MILWAUKEE, Wis. - The UW-Superior men's basketball team hit the road on Tuesday to take on Wisconsin Lutheran. Heading into the game, the Yellowjackets were still looking for their first win of the season. Their efforts to earn their first win were stymied as the Warriors beat the 'Jackets 73-61.

Game Notes:

  • The Yellowjackets and Warriors traded buckets throughout much of the first half as the two squads were deadlocked at 19 with five minutes remaining in the half.

  • The 'Jackets were able to build a four-point lead as buckets from Kenny Garth (Kenosha, Wis./Westosha Central) and Gage Braiedy (Mora, Minn./Mora) put them ahead. Wisconsin Lutheran was able to take the lead going into halftime as Ja'Quell Chisom made a layup to make the score 28-27 at the break.

  • In the second half the 'Jackets remained within striking distance as they found themselves trailing by two at the thirteen-minute mark. A 23-5 scoring run from the Warriors found the 'Jackets trailing by 20 with just 4:30 remaining.

  • Micah Young (Minneapolis, Minn./Thomas Edison) was able to keep the 'Jackets within striking distance down the stretch as he hit two three pointers but clutch free throws in closing time were able to put UWS away.

  • Rocco Paulson (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East) led the way for the 'Jackets as he put up 16 points and eight rebounds while Young had 12 points.

  • For Wisconsin Lutheran Chisom led all scorers in the contest with 20 points in 37 minutes of action.

The 'Jackets return to home court this Saturday to take on Loras. Tip-off is scheduled for 1 p.m inside Mortorelli Gymnasium.
