Schafer's 16 Points Paces Yellowjackets to Victory Over Macalester

ST. PAUL, Minn. - The Yellowjacket women's basketball traveled to the Twin Cities Tuesday afternoon to take on Macalester in non-conference action. This would be the Yellowjackets fifth time taking on a MIAC opponent on the season in a game that was moved up due to potential inclement weather in the forecast. The schedule change didn't affect UWS as they took the victory over the Scots 54-43.

Game Notes:

  • The Yellowjackets took the early advantage in the game as Megan Schafer (Grantsburg, Wis./Grantsburg) scored the first five points of the contest for UWS before Charlotte Ferstl (Plain, Wis./River Valley) scored the last four of the first quarter to put the 'Jackets up 12-4 at the end of the first ten minutes.

  •  In the second quarter the 'Jackets were able to maintain their lead as they took a twelve-point lead into halftime.

  • In the third quarter, UWS was able to build their lead to 19 going into fourth off buckets from Maddie Reott (Stoughton, Wis./Stoughton), Kylee Hewitt (Hurley, Wis./), and Schafer.

  • In the fourth quoter UWS was able to get their lead to 22, but Macalester wouldn't go away quietly as they got the lead down to single digits.

  • Free throws from MyKenzie Leccia (Somerset, Wis./Somerset) and Reott were able to Scots away in the end, giving the 'Jackets their second victory of the season.

  • The Yellowjackets were led in scoring by Schafer, who put up 16 points while Leccia and Reott had eight points each.

The Yellowjackets hit the hardwood again next Tuesday to host NAIA opponent Viterbo. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. inside Mortorelli Gymnasium.
