Kidd’s Golden Goal Gives Yellowjacket Men Ninth Straight UMAC Title

SUPERIOR, Wis. – The Yellowjacket men's soccer team and Bethany Lutheran have highlighted the last five Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) Championship matches, and Saturday would make the sixth consecutive matchup between the two teams. Once again the match was tightly contested and physical play ensued, but the 'Jackets would come away with a 2-1 victory in overtime to claim their ninth postseason championship.

Match Notes
  • The Vikings didn't allow a single shot from the Yellowjackets in the first half, while BLC fired six shots at Patrick Sessions (Brighton, England/Brighton, Hove & Sussex Sixth Form College).
  • Physical play took place throughout the entire contest, as 10 fouls were issued in the first half while 15 more came in the second.
  • In the 71st minute Juan Campos found the back of the net, sending the Bethany Lutheran bench into a frenzy. They would get countered, however, as Seth Davidson (Sartell, Minn./Sartell) rattled a shot from Harvey McLoughlin (London, England/Highgate Woods) and Joel Thomas (Cardiff, Wales/Islwyn) to level the scoring at 1-1.
  • Neither team was able to find the back of the net in regulation, but just a minute and 15 seconds into the extra session, Jake Kidd (Superior, Wis./Superior) took a feed from Freddy Watson (Wendover, England/Berkshire College of Agriculture) and buried the golden goal, lifting the Yellowjackets to a 2-1 win and another trip to the NCAA Tournament.
  • Isaac Becket (Surrey, England/The Sixth Form College Farnborough) led with four shots, while Davidson had three of his own.
  • Sessions made a pair of saves on the contest, seeing all 91:15 in the net for the Yellowjackets.
  • Kidd was named MVP for his game-winning goal.

The Yellowjackets will now learn their first round opponent in the NCAA Tournament Monday morning when they watch the NCAA Selection Show. It is scheduled for 10:30 a.m.
