Paulson's Double-Double Lifts 'Jackets to Win Over Saints

DULUTH, Minn. - The Yellowjacket men's basketball team traveled across the bridge Wednesday night to face St. Scholastica. UWS was able to take down their former conference foe and earn their second victory of the season by a final score of 64-56.  

Game Notes:  

  • The Saints jumped out to an early 9-4 lead before a 'Jacket run off scores from Micah Young (Minneapolis, Minn./Thomas Edison)Rocco Paulson (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East) and Evan Bennett (Superior, Wis./Superior) gave them their first lead of the game at 12-11.  

  • With the game tied at 26 with 4:33 left in the first half, UWS went on an 11-0 run to close the half as Caiden Lecce (Kenosha, Wis./St. Joseph Catholic) and Landen Thomer (Mosinee, Wis./Mosinee) helped them get into the break up 37-26.  

  • The UWS run continued into the second half as they went up 43-26 before CSS went on a run themselves getting the game to 43-38. 

  • From there UWS was able to weather the Saints storm as they closed out the game with Andrew Beers (Slinger, Wis./Slinger) stepping up to the free throw line nailing four in the final minute to ice the victory.  

  • For UWS, Paulson notched a double-double in the contest with 12 points and 15 rebounds. Beers, Bennett and Young followed Paulson with ten points each in the game.  

  • Koy Nelson led the Saints in scoring with 17 points while Davion Butler scored 13. 

The Yellowjackets return home Saturday as they host 22nd ranked UW-Eau Claire. Tip-off inside Mertz Mortorelli Gymnasium is scheduled for 3 p.m.
