Pederson Scores Twice in 6-3 Victory Over Beloit

JANESVILLE, Wis. - The Yellowjacket men's hockey team took on Beloit for the second game of their weekend series. After taking game one last night, the 'Jackets were able to defeat the Buccaneers yet again this time by a score of 6-3.  

Game Notes:  

  • Beloit jumped out to a two-goal lead in the first period as Luka VanBaalen and Sam Holy found the back of the net for the Buccaneers.  

  • Carson Riddle (Ortonville, Mich./Brandon) was able to answer UWS as he found the back of the net off assists from Dusty Bergstrom (Pine City, Minn./Pine City) and Collin Pederson (Owatonna, Minn./Owatonna) on the power play. 

  • Beloit added a third goal in the first period as Zach Hutchinson scored to give them a 3-1 advantage.  

  • Superior was able to knot the game at three goals apiece, both of which came on power plays. The first off, the stick of Justin Dauphinais (Val Caron, Ontario/École Secondaire Catholique Horizon) as he was assisted by Evan Axell (Plymouth, Minn./Armstrong) and Daniel Rozsival (Chicago, Ill./North Shore Country Day). The second came from Pederson as AJ Reed (Milwaukee, Wis./Menomonee Falls) and Riddle were credited with assists.  

  • The 'Jackets took the lead in the second period as Austin Paul (Saint-Lazare, Quebec/École Secondaire du Sommet) lit the lamp for UWS off helpers from Alexey Yarmulnik (Old Bridge, N.J./Old Bridge) and Dauphinais.  

  • UWS was able to ice the game in third, adding two more goals first from Reed, who was assisted by Roope Tuomioksa (Tuusula, Finland/Mäkelänrinne Sports High) and Bergstrom, and the second from Pederson on the empty net.  

  • Kobe Grant (Vernon, British Columbia/South Kamloops Secondary) went all the way in net for the 'Jackets making 16 saves in the contest.  

  • Riddle and Paul led the way in shot for UWS, taking six and five respectively.  

The 'Jackets now head into the holiday break with a 7-5-1 (3-3-0 WIAC) record. Their next game is scheduled for January 7 again facing Beloit this time inside Wessman Arena with a scheduled start time of 7 p.m.
