Paulson, Lecce, Thomer Power 'Jackets to Victory Over UW-Stout

MENOMONIE, Wis. - The Yellowjacket men's basketball team hit the road on Wednesday night to take on UW-Stout. The trip south to Menomonie proved to be a successful one as the Yellowjackets earned their first victory of the season, beating the Blue Devils 79-70.  

Game Notes:  

  • Superior and Stout traded buckets early on as Rocco Paulson (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East) scored 11 of the first 16 Yellowjackets points.  

  • UWS was able to gain a bit of an advantage as Landen Thomer (Mosinee, Wis./Mosinee) nailed two three points before Stout was able to regain a brief lead. 

  • Heading into the half, the 'Jackets found themselves up 39-36 as Caiden Lecce (Kenosha, Wis./St. Joseph Catholic) sunk two free throws to end first half action.  

  • Early in the second half the 'Jackets opened a 12-point advantage as Micah Young (Minneapolis, Minn./Thomas Edison) knocked down two three-pointers.  

  • Stout was able to hang around throughout the second half at one point making the UWS lead six but clutch free throws from Eddie Mittermeyer (Cadott, Wis./McDonnell Central Catholic) down the stretch iced the game.  

  • Paulson and Lecce led the 'Jackets in scoring each having 17 points while Thomer had a double-double off the bench with 16 points and 12 rebounds.  

  • Justin Nelson scored a game-high 23 points for the Blue Devils. 

  • The 'Jackets shot a collective 49% for the game while forcing ten Blue Devil turnovers.  

Superior returns home Saturday to host St. Norbert. Tip-off is scheduled for 3 p.m. inside Mertz Mortorelli Gymnasium.
