Superior Upends Carleton 70-38

SUPERIOR, Wis. – After a weekend of facing a pair of nationally ranked teams in RV Ripon and No. 3 UW-Oshkosh, the Yellowjacket women's basketball team rebounded nicely on Wednesday, defeating the Carleton Knights 70-38 inside Mertz Mortorelli Gym.

Game Notes
  • An early jumper from Charlotte Ferstl (Plain, Wis./River Valley) got Superior going, and later Megan Schafer (Grantsburg, Wis./Grantsburg) would finish a three pointer before the Knights began to chip away.
  • The 'Jackets ended the first with a four-point lead at 13-9, and in the second, they would outscore Carleton 20-9.
  • Kylee Hewitt (Hurley, Wis./) hit a layup after a feed from Hope Carlson (Duluth, Minn./Proctor), and later Carlson would drain a shot beyond the arc after an assist from Maddie Reott (Stoughton, Wis./Stoughton).
  • MyKenzie Leccia (Somerset, Wis./Somerset) fired the last shot for Superior in the second, establishing a 15-point lead at 33-18.
  • The third was all Superior, as they added 23 more compared to just 10 from the Knights. The 'Jackets scored 15 points off three pointers.
  • Shortly after entering the game in the fourth, Abby Johnson (Lake Nebagamon, Wis./Northwestern) garnered a scoop-and-score for her first points of the game. Adison Allard (Otsego, Minn./Rogers) would also find the scoresheet later in the quarter, grabbing an offensive rebound and putting it back at 66-32.
  • In total, the 'Jackets shot 41.5 percent from the field. Leading the way offensively was Leccia with 14 points.
  • Ferstl once again garnered a double-double, this time scoring 10 points and grabbing a team-high 13 boards.

The Yellowjackets return home Saturday as they host Lawrence. The opening tipoff is set for 1 p.m. inside the Mertz.
