SUPERIOR, Wis.- The Yellowjacket women's hockey team played host to the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Blugolds Saturday. The game marked Superior's first home slate of Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) play. After a back and forth first period which saw the score tied 2-2, the Blugolds were able to outscore the 'Jackets the rest of the way leading to an eventual 4-2 victory.
Game Notes
- Superior jumped out to an early 1-0 lead as Kendal Gustavsson (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing) found the back of the net on an assist from Addison Fee (Crookston, Minn./Crookston).
- Eau Claire was able to knot the score at one courtesy of Maddie Hulter.
- Avery Olenik (Thunder Bay, Ontario/Hammarskjold) put the 'Jackets back on top after scoring her second goal of the season. Ashton Parnell (Cambridge, Minn./Cambridge-Isanti) and Aislin Carrick (Monitor, Alberta/Shaftesbury) were credited with assists.
- The Blugolds once again evened the score to close out the fi rst period after a goal from Adrienne Hansen.
- Eau Claire added two more goals, one in the second period courtesy of Madisyn Krumholz. As well as one in the third period from Jordan Hancock.
- Jayda Moyer (Albert Lea, Minn./Albert Lea) held a .918 save percentage making 45 saves.
- Gustavsson took three shots on goal to pace the offense for Superior.
- Parnell won 13-16 faceoffs, while Anna Scherling (Rogers, Minn./Rogers) won eight.
Superior is back in action Friday, as they travel west to take on Concordia (Minn). The opening faceoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. inside the Moorhead Sports Center.
