ASHLAND, Wis. – The Yellowjacket women's hockey team took to the ice Saturday for the final game of the regular season, looking to close out their campaign with a strong performance against Northland College.
And strong it was.
UW-Superior erupted for four first-period goals and never looked back, cruising to a dominant 9-0 victory over the LumberJills at Bay Area Civic Center.
With the win, the Yellowjackets finished the regular season at 11-12-2 overall and 3-9-0 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC).
Anna Maulson (Lac du Flambeau, Wis./Lakeland Union) got the start in net for the Yellowjackets and stopped all 11 shots she faced, earning her second shutout of the season. Mauslon improves to 4-6-1 on the year.
Emma Booth (Brainerd, Minn./Brainerd) and
Aislin Carrick (Monitor, Alberta/Shaftesbury) were instrumental in UW-Superior's dominant 9-0 victory over Northland, combining for four goals in the rout. Booth opened the scoring early in the first period and struck again in the second, setting the tone for the Yellowjackets' relentless attack. Carrick, meanwhile, had a milestone multi-point game, netting her first two goals of her NCAA career.
Game Notes
- It took just 5:49 for the Yellowjackets to get on the board. Brynn MacLean (Wilcox, Saskatchewan/Athol Murray College of Notre Dame) opened the scoring, finishing off a play set up by Booth and Maddie Rewertz (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing).
- Less than 20 seconds later, Rewertz doubled the lead with her first goal of the season, taking feeds from Kaylin Garner (Anchorage, Alaska/Chugiak) and Cora Coz (Elk River, Minn./Elk River) to make it 2-0.
- Booth struck again at 7:49, and Gaby Andreacchi (Thunder Bay, Ontario/St. Patrick) added a power-play tally late in the period, sending UWS into the first intermission with a commanding 4-0 advantage.
- The second period brought more of the same, as Booth wasted no time, scoring just 14 seconds into the frame for her second goal of the night. Kailey Swerhun (Thunder Bay, Ontario/St. Ignatius) added another power-play goal at 1:32, and Carrick scored her first NCAA goal, finding the back of the net at 15:17 to extend the lead to 7-0.
- UWS tacked on two more goals in the third—Anna Scherling (Rogers, Minn./Rogers) at 4:55 and Carrick again at 7:30—to cap off the dominant performance.
- The Yellowjackets finished 2-for-5 on the power play while holding Northland to 0-for-4.
- UWS controlled the faceoff circle, winning 52 of 69 draws, led by Jenna Hoops (Woodbury, Minn./Visitation School) who went 14-1.
- For Northland, goaltenders Zoey Soost and Zoe Laming combined for 48 saves but were under siege all night as UWS fired 57 total shots on goal.
