Dan Conway was more than an elite runner—he was a passionate teacher, an inspiring coach, and a guiding light to generations of students and athletes. He began his journey at Superior State Teachers College, now proudly known as the University of Wisconsin–Superior, where he stood out as a dynamic halfback on the football team and a sprinter for the track & field team.
After graduating and exploring the world, Dan found his true calling in education and mentorship. For 28 devoted years, he taught physical education and coached with heart, purpose, and unwavering commitment. In his running career, he soared to extraordinary heights in Masters running, becoming a world champion in Perpignan, France in 1983. At his peak, Dan held multiple American and world records—testaments to both his talent and relentless drive. His remarkable achievements earned him a place in several halls of fame, including the UW–Superior Athletic Hall of Fame.
Dan's greatest legacy isn't measured in medals or records—it lives on in the countless lives he touched. He was a coach who believed in the potential of every runner, a teacher who helped others find strength they didn't know they had. Through his encouragement, wisdom, and example, Dan inspired generations to chase their dreams—not just in sport, but in life.
Today, the spirit of Dan Conway endures on every track, in every student, and in every stride taken with purpose and passion.
