SUPERIOR, Wis. – The Yellowjacket men's soccer team resumed their non-conference slate Wednesday, this time taking on Macalester from the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC).
Despite falling 1-0 within the first five minutes of play, the 'Jackets logged their first goal of the season and looked to garner their first win of the season, but the Scots fired back and scored the eventual game-winner to defeat UWS 2-1.
Match Notes
- Macalester picked up an early 1-0 lead after Chris Frantz took a feed from Zach Liptzin and buried one past the Yellowjacket keeper Luke Lockman (Mequon, Wis./Homestead) at the fourth minute of play.
- Superior's first goal of the season came off the foot of none other than Jake Kidd (Superior, Wis./Superior), the team's leading scorer from last season. He received helpers from Isaac Becket (Surrey, England/The Sixth Form College Farnborough) and Taylor Moore (Billings, Mont./Skyview) at the 16th minute to level the scoring.
- Just five minutes later, however, the Scots struck again. Jack Freimann sent one to the back of the net at the 21st minute that secured the 2-1 victory.
- The 'Jackets were limited to just three shots on net, with Joel Thomas (Cardiff, Wales/Islwyn) and Harvey McLoughlin (London, England/Highgate Woods) contributing the latter two.
- Lockman logged four saves in his first collegiate start.
Superior has a quick turnaround as they return to the pitch Friday to take on St. Olaf. The opening kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at SCCU Stadium in Superior.
