Hohbein, Hering Pace Superior to Sweep of North Central

MINNEAPOLIS – Saturday the Yellowjacket volleyball team played its second of two matches in the Twin Cities, facing North Central. Friday night Superior fell 3-1 to Northwestern, but the 'Jackets got right back on track after sweeping the Rams 3-0 inside Clark-Danielson Gym.

Match Notes
  • The 'Jackets collected two early kills and four points off from Katlyn Jones (Bloomer, Wis./Bloomer) and Sydney Smith (Milltown, Wis./Unity), and from there they rolled through the opening set. Kyndra Peterson (Mounds View, Minn./Irondale) added kills midway before a six-point rally secured a 25-17 win.
  • North Central took an early lead in the second set, but a six-point rally featuring three Makenna Hohbein (Holdingford, Minn./Holdingford) kills helped steer the ship back on course. The Rams came within one at 15-14, but Superior saw offensive output from Jones, Kate Jamtgaard (Grand Rapids, Minn./Grand Rapids) and Colleen Claude (Centuria, Wis./Homeschool) to claim a 25-20 win in the second.
  • In the finale the Rams took control early, utilizing Yellowjacket miscues and leading 12-5. Hohbein and Jamtgaard led the comeback, which includes a six-point rally to secure the sweep with a 25-17 victory.
  • Hohbein led once again with 15 kills, followed by Jamtgaard and Jones with eight apiece.
  • Defensively Smith and Jamtgaard logged a pair of blocks and Jones contributed one.
  • Savanna Hering (Superior, Wis./Superior) and Carlie Lohman (South Range, Wis./Superior) accumulated double-digit digs with 11, while Hohbein had nine.
