Yellowjackets Tame Cougars On Saturday Afternoon

SUPERIOR, Wis. - The Yellowjacket women's soccer team looked to bounce back with a win after a draw against Northwestern their last time out. In their way were the Cougars of Minnesota Morris who UWS has defeated on 12 straight occasions. The Yellowjackets went onto gain their thirteenth straight victory over the Cougars 5-1.  

Match Notes:  

  • Niamh Larson (Brookfield, Ill./Riverside Brookfield) got the Yellowjackets on the board first as she sent a shot that deflected off Morris' goalkeeper CJ Frear-Boerner to find the back of the net.  

  • Emma Wright (Bemidji, Minn./Bemidji) doubled the Yellowjacket lead as she got a cross from Sophie Adler (Cottage Grove, Minn./East Ridge) and found the back of the net in the 41st minute of play.  

  • Johnette Nagbe scored for the Cougars to cut the deficit to one as she shot one past Quinn Clark (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East) in the 63rd minute of play.  

  • Julia Lindow (Richfield, Minn./Richfield) added a third goal for the Yellowjackets in the 67th minute as she got passes from Abby Carlson (Rockford, Ill./Guilford) and Larson and sent a shot that went over the Cougar goalkeeper to make the score 3-1.  

  • Brook Judnick (Hermantown, Minn./Hermantown) added a fourth goal moments later as UWS extended their lead to three. Kasja Kovala (Winona, Minn./Winona) and Larson picked up assists on Judnick's goal.  

  • Wright got her second goal of the game as she took a header that found the net off passes from Lilly Klocker (Ramsey, Minn./Anoka) and Charlie Lindsley (Rapid City, S.D./Stevens)

  • UWS outshot the Cougars 19-2 with Larson racking up five of them.  

Up next for UWS they head to Martin Luther to take on the Knights. Kickoff is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. at MLC Soccer Stadium in New Ulm, Minn.
