Quimby's 15 Points Paces the 'Jackets to Victory Over MLC

SUPERIOR, Wis. - The Yellowjacket men's basketball team welcomed the Knights from Martin Luther into Mortorelli Gymnasium on Saturday. The Yellowjackets were able to get control of the game early and beat Martin Luther 76-59 to earn their first conference victory.

Game Notes:

  • A pair of buckets from Landen Thomer (Mosinee, Wis./Mosinee) got the 'Jackets going on offense before a Gage Braiedy (Mora, Minn./Mora) jumper and Hayden Quimby (Menasha, Wis./Xavier) three gave Superior an early lead.

  • Micah Young (Minneapolis, Minn./Thomas Edison) helped maintain the lead as he knocked down two three pointers while a layup from Caiden Lecce (Kenosha, Wis./St. Joseph Catholic) and a jumper from Evan Bennett (Superior, Wis./Superior) got the 'Jackets a ten-point lead, but Martin Luther cut the deficit to six at the break.

  • Buckets from Andrew Beers (Slinger, Wis./Slinger) and Quimby allowed the 'Jackets to build back the lead, but the Knights cut the lead down to two before Eddie Mittermeyer (Cadott, Wis./McDonnell Central Catholic) knocked down a three to settle the 'Jackets back down.

  • Buckets around the rim from Rocco Paulson (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East), Quimby and Lecce allowed the 'Jackets to build back up their lead to ten with five minutes remaining.

  • Free throws from Braiedy and Bennett iced the game for UWS, with them ultimately coming away with the 17-point victory.

  • Quimby paced the Yellowjackets with 15 points while Thomer filled in 11 points while also grabbing nine rebounds.

  • Martin Luther had three players score in double figures as Benjamin Pearson and Thomas Balge had 14 points while Adam Loberger scored 13.

The Yellowjackets (5-11, 1-2 UMAC) are next in action on Wednesday as they host Northwestern. Tip-off from Mortorelli Gymnasium between the 'Jackets and Eagles is scheduled for 7:15 p.m.
