RIVER FALLS, Wis. – Following a 4-0 loss to No. 1 UW-River Falls Friday, the Yellowjacket women's hockey team hit the road to Hunt Arena Saturday for the second-of-two games on the weekend. After going scoreless Friday inside Wessman Arena, the 'Jackets put UWRF on its toes with a pair of late goals, but a power play goal at 15:17 secured a 4-2 win for the defending national champion Falcons.
Game Notes
- An early three goals for UWRF provided the edge Saturday, with a goal in the first and two in the second.
- At 5:31 in the third period, Jaelyn Wharton (Brainerd, Minn./Brainerd) fired her first collegiate goal after Stacy Steiner (Janesville, Wis./Craig) sent one towards Falcon goalkeeper Olivia Hansen.
- Just over a minute later, the Yellowjackets began to close in as Kendal Gustavsson (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing) took a loose puck on the left circle and fired it far side, making the score 3-2.
- Late in the period, Megan Goodreau lit the lamp for the second time on the power play, leading to a 4-2 win.
- Gustavsson led with three shots on the afternoon.
- Jayda Moyer (Albert Lea, Minn./Albert Lea) drew the start Saturday, making 36 saves. 14 saves came in the opening period of play.
- Both Steiner and Kasja Kovala (Winona, Minn./Winona) had four blocked shots, while Brooke Bugos (Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial) had three.
Friday the Yellowjackets travel to the Hobbs Ice Center for their final two regular season games with No. 9 UW-Eau Claire. The opening faceoff is slated for 2 p.m.
