Superior’s Comeback Not Enough, Fall to Blugolds 4-3

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. – The Yellowjacket women's hockey team rolled into Hobbs Ice Arena for their final two matchups with the No. 9-ranked Blugolds of UW-Eau Claire Friday. Despite falling 3-1 in the second period, the Yellowjackets rallied back with a pair of goals courtesy of Avery Olenik (Thunder Bay, Ontario/Hammarskjold), but a late Blugold goal saw UWEC sneak past the 'Jackets.

Game Notes
  • Kylie Wiltse struck early for UW-Eau Claire, finding the back of the net at 1:39 in the first period.
  • Just under three minutes later, Stacy Steiner (Janesville, Wis./Craig) received a feed from Addison Fee (Crookston, Minn./Crookston) to quickly level the scoring at 1-1.
  • UWEC garnered goals from Lauren Ballinger and Adrienne Hansen at 3:53 and 5:50 in the second period, giving them a 3-1 advantage.
  • Anna Scherling (Rogers, Minn./Rogers) sent a pass to Olenik at 14:08 and she came away with her third goal of the campaign.
  • Late in the third, Olenik lit the lamp once again, this time at 11:59. Veda Roeske (Stillwater, Minn./Stillwater Area) and Ashton Parnell (Cambridge, Minn./Cambridge-Isanti) were credited the assists to knot things up at 3-3.
  • Overtime was looming as the scoreboard ticked under a minute, but Madisyn Krumholz took the puck and sent a shot that beat Yellowjacket goaltender Jayda Moyer (Albert Lea, Minn./Albert Lea) for the game-winner at 19:11. Moyer ended the game with 36 saves.
  • Olenik led with four shots while Aylie Dahl (Beaumont, Alberta/John Maland), Kendal Gustavsson (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing) and Ella Hornung (Stillwater, Minn./Hill-Murray) had three apiece.
