STEVENS POINT, Wis. - The Yellowjacket men's hockey team traveled to Stevens Point Friday night to take on the Pointers. The Yellowjackets maintained a lead throughout the game and skated away with a 4-2 victory over UWSP.
Game Notes
- UWS wasted no time in the first period, scoring two goals on 11 shots.
- Roope Tuomioksa (Tuusula, Finland/Mäkelänrinne Sports High) struck first for the 'Jackets to give them an early lead at 12:03. Andrew Larson (Duluth, Minn./Denfeld) and Matt Danziger (Potomac, Md./University of Nebraska High) garnered assists on the play.
- Nearly five minutes later Ikki Kogawa (Chiba, Japan/Collingwood Collegiate Institute) found the back of the net on a Yellowjacket powerplay, courtesy of feeds from Daniel Rozsival (Chicago, Ill./North Shore Country Day) and Sam Brennan (Eau Claire, Wis./Memorial).
- UWSP answered back just 16 seconds later to cut the deficit and headed into the second period down 2-1.
- Period two remained scoreless until Collin Pederson (Owatonna, Minn./Owatonna) scored from behind the net with a wrap-around shot. Kogawa and Liam Whitehouse (Mount Kisco, N.Y./Horace Greeley) received assists on teh third goal of the contest for Superior.
- Following a power play goal by the Pointers they opted to pull their goalie for an extra skater, but Tyler Ryder (Byron Center, Mich./Northstar Christian Academy) sent a shot into the empty net to secure a 4-2 win.
- The Yellowjackets outplayed the Pointers in shots on goal with a mark of 26-21.
- Kogawa led with two points on the evening.
- Brennan led the way with eight shots.
The Yellowjackets and Pointers will be back tomorrow to close out their regular season conference series. The puck drop is set for 7 p.m. inside K.B. Willett Arena.
