Yellowjackets Fend Off Pointers Rally, Earn 3-2 Victory

STEVENS POINT, Wis. - The Yellowjacket men's hockey team was back facing UW-Stevens Point on Saturday night in their final game of the regular season. There were big WIAC playoff implications on the line in the contest as the 'Jackets needed a win to secure the fourth seed, and Pointers needed a win or overtime to secure the three seed. The Yellowjackets were able to fend off a Pointer rally in the end, winning 3-2.

Game Notes:

  • Roope Tuomioksa (Tuusula, Finland/Mäkelänrinne Sports High) opened the scoring two minutes in as he took a pass from Andrew Larson (Duluth, Minn./Denfeld) and found the back of the net.

  • Chris Ishmael (Oakville, Ontario/Abbey Park Secondary School) doubled the 'Jacket lead midway through the second period as he lit the lamp. Liam Whitehouse (Mount Kisco, N.Y./Horace Greeley) and Daniel Rozsival (Chicago, Ill./North Shore Country Day) were credited with assists on the goal.

  • Five minutes into the third period AJ Reed (Milwaukee, Wis./Menomonee Falls) scored the third 'Jacket goal off helpers from Tuomioksa and Whitehouse.

  • Owen Dean was able to get the Pointers on the board as he sent a shot past Yellowjacket goalie Jan Skorpik (Brandýs nad Labem, Czechia/OA Prague). Camden Markham added another Stevens Point goal with two minutes remaining making the score 3-2.

  • Ikki Kogawa (Chiba, Japan/Collingwood Collegiate Institute) led the 'Jackets in shots taking three while three others had two each.

  • Skorpik took the win in net making 29 saves in the contest.

With the victory, the Yellowjackets (13-10-2, 6-8-1 WIAC) earned the right to host the 4/5 matchup in the WIAC tournament in which they will again see UW-Stevens Point. The opening faceoff from Wessman Arena is scheduled for 7 p.m. next Saturday.
