Morris Roars Back in the Second Half to Beat Superior

SUPERIOR, Wis. - The Yellowjacket women's basketball team went into the final of the regular season needed a win to secure the two seeds in the UMAC postseason tournament. Standing in their way was Minnesota Morris, who also needed a win to secure the two seed in the tournament. Despite the 'Jackets holding the halftime lead Morris roared back to take the win and the two seed.  

Game Notes:  

  • Superior and Morris traded buckets early with MyKenzie Leccia (Somerset, Wis./Somerset), Maddie Reott (Stoughton, Wis./Stoughton), and Charlotte Ferstl (Plain, Wis./River Valley) scoring for the Yellowjackets and leaving the game 19-18 at the end of the first.  

  • The 'Jackets took control of the game in the second quarter Leccia, Megan Schafer (Grantsburg, Wis./Grantsburg) and Hope Carlson (Duluth, Minn./Proctor) allowed them to take a 10-point lead.  

  • At the end of the half Leccia made a three pointer and was fouled at the buzzer giving the 'Jackets a 15-point lead at the midway point.  

  • In the third quarter, the Cougars began to chip away at the Superior lead going on a 12-3 run before Reott was able to settle the 'Jackets back down, allowing them to take an eight-point lead into the fourth quarter.  

  • In the fourth quarter Morris was able to take a lead with three minutes remaining, which they never surrendered winning the game 74-65.  

  • Reott led Superior in scoring with 20 points. For the Cougars, Maddy Grove and Gianna Klarenbeek both scored 19 to lead the way.  

The Yellowjackets are next in action on Wednesday as they travel to Minnesota Morris. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. at James Gremmels Court.
