Northwestern's Hot Shooting Too Much for Superior

ST. PAUL, Minn. - The Yellowjacket men's basketball team was on the road Wednesday night to take on Northwestern. In the two teams previous matchup, the 'Jackets fell in the final moments to the Eagles. In this matchup the Eagle left no doubt on the way to a 99-77 victory.

Game Notes:

  • Rocco Paulson (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East) and Caiden Lecce (Kenosha, Wis./St. Joseph Catholic) scored the first two buckets for Superior, but Northwestern quickly jumped out to a 15-point advantage.

  • Northwestern continued to build their lead, but the freshman duo of Lucas Glaus (Elmwood, Wis./Elmwood) and Jett Rogowski (Wittenberg, Wis./Wittenberg-Birnamwood) helped the 'Jackets weather the Eagle storm.

  • Northwestern led by as many as 27 in the first half, but Paulson scored to get the lead to 25 at halftime.

  • The 'Jackets cut into the Eagle lead with help from Evan Bennett (Superior, Wis./Superior) and Hayden Quimby (Menasha, Wis./Xavier) getting the deficit as low as 17.

  • Micah Young (Minneapolis, Minn./Thomas Edison) got Superior's deficit to 15 but Northwestern built their lead back to 25 before some free throw makes by Nicklaus Hein (Wayzata, Minn./Wayzata) and Bryce Priem (Solon Springs, Wis./Northwestern) ended the night for Superior.

  • Quimby led the 'Jackets offensively with 12 points, all of which came in the second half while Bennett filled in 11 points.

  • For Northwestern Japheth Nyamari exploded for 40 points in the contest making ten of his 13 attempted three pointers.

Next up for the Yellowjacket (5-16, 1-7 UMAC) the travel to New Ulm to take on Martin Luther. Tip-off is scheduled for 4:45 p.m. inside LSC Gymnasium.
