SUPERIOR, Wis. - The Yellowjacket women's hockey team took the ice Friday for a Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) match up with the Pointers from UW-Stevens Point at Wessman Arena. Despite a strong performance from the Yellowjackets, they fell short to the Pointers, losing 4-3 in overtime.
Game Notes
- Addison Fee (Crookston, Minn./Crookston) scored the first goal of the game for Superior at 11:21, with Gabby Olson (Superior, Wis./Superior) and Kendal Gustavsson (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing) given assists.
- Natalie Ahern scored with 21 seconds left in the first for the Pointers, making the game all square heading into the second period.
- Back-to-back goals for each team started the scoring in the second period as Claire Riestenberg scored at 1:08 for the Pointers, while Ella Hornung (Stillwater, Minn./Hill-Murray) scored at 1:47 for the 'Jackets. Maddie Anderle fired shortly after, giving UWSP the lead heading into the third at 3-2.
- Anna Scherling (Rogers, Minn./Rogers) tied the scoring, landing a power play late in the third period which sent the game into overtime.
- Anderle gave the Pointers the victory at 1:29, firing the game-winner.
- Jayda Moyer (Albert Lea, Minn./Albert Lea) finished the day with 31 saves.
The Yellowjackets (1-20-1, 1-8 WIAC) stay home and wrap up their regular season series with UWSP. The opening faceoff is set for 2 p.m. inside Wessman Arena.
