Softball 10-Runs Saint Mary’s Before Walking Off Rivier

MELBOURNE, Fla. – Monday the Yellowjacket softball team took on Saint Mary's College (Ind.) and Rivier University in their third day of the Space Coast Games. The bats were alive in game one as 12 hits spearheaded an 11-1 victory over the Belles. In game two of the day, it took until the final frame where Carly Stuckmayer (Delano, Minn./Delano) singled through the right side to plate MyKenzie Leccia (Somerset, Wis./Somerset), giving the 'Jackets a 1-0 walk-off win.

Game One Notes
  • Three early runs came courtesy of a triple to right field off the bat of Peyton Bennett (Harrisburg, S.D./Harrisburg). She was plated through an infield groundout before Larissa Snyder (Blaine, Minn./Spring Lake Park) singled and later advanced to third. She scored off a Kylie Zwak (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East) double that also plated Tessa Twedt (Brookings, S.D./Brookings), who drew a nine-pitch walk to lead 3-0.
  • Saint Mary's lone run came off a sacrifice fly, scoring Allie Moss who clubbed a one-out single to right center.
  • In the top of the fourth inning, Bennett hit a two-run shot to left field that plated Jade Kolbe (Independence, Minn./Orono), who singled to left field previously.
  • A total of six runs and five hits were garnered in the top half of the fifth. Delaney Johnson (Ellsworth, Wis./Ellsworth) garnered a pinch-hit RBI single to left center while Karen Balabon (Elk River, Minn./Elk River) singled to drive in two more, giving the Yellowjackets an 11-1 lead.
  • Despite the Belles getting a runner in scoring position, they would fall in the bottom of the fifth inning.
  • Bennett led offensively, going 3-3 with three RBIs and two runs scored.
  • Abby Mitchell (Cloquet, Minn./Carlton) went the distance, allowing just one run in five innings of work in the circle.

Game Two Notes
  • Both the Yellowjackets and the Raiders were unable to generate anything offensively, as both pitchers kept their teams in the game. Bethany Lewis (Antigo, Wis./Antigo) drew the start for Superior, while Hailey Berube chucked for Rivier.
  • In the bottom of the seventh inning, Leccia hit a leadoff single to left. She would move to second on a single to center field courtesy of Megan Witt (Burnsville, Minn./Eagan) before Stuckmayer singled through the right side of the infield, plating Leccia for the walk-off victory.
  • Lewis struck out four and allowed three hits in the circle. Her record moves to 2-0 on the season.

UWS will take a day off before returning to action Wednesday, facing off against Emerson and Wheaton (Ill.). Action on the Blue Marucci field is set for 1:30 p.m. CT in Melbourne.
