SAINT PAUL, Minn. - The Yellowjacket women's tennis team took on Northwestern Thursday at the William Zane Johnson Tennis Complex. In Superior's second Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) victory, they picked up their second victory after sweeping the Eagles 7-0.
Match Notes
- The 'Jackets took two-of-three doubles matches for the lone point, as Andreina Tejada (Quito, Ecuador/Isaac Newton) and Claudia Curtis (Hartland, Wis./Lake Mills) downed UNW's top doubles selection of Rein Hayashi and Sarah Langridge 7-6 (7-2)
- Addison Fee (Crookston, Minn./Crookston) and Elif Oezen (Rheda-Wiedenbrueck, Germany/Einstein Gymnasium) earned a 6-1 victory at No. 3 doubles.
- Tejada went on to win 6-3, 6-2 against Hayashi at the top singles position.
- Anouk Bluemm (Nuremberg, Germany/Wilhelm-Loege Gymnasium) came away with a big win over Sarah Langridge at No. 2 singles. She won 7-6 (8-6) before falling 7-6 (6-3), and eventually capturing the tiebreaker 1-0 (10-7).
- At the third singles slot, Oezen won 6-3, 6-0 over Aby Ross while Kate Jonas (Annandale, Minn./Annandale) won 6-2, 6-1 over her Eagles counterpart.
- Curtis, positioned at the fourth spot, won 6-1, 6-0 over UNW's Hannah Hyttsten.
- To round out Superior, Daylyn Drew (Negaunee, Mich./Negaunee) took down Abbi CImenski 7-5, 6-3 at the sixth singles spot.
The Yellowjackets return to action Saturday as they continue UMAC play versus Bethany Lutheran. The opening serve is set for 7 p.m. inside the John and May Menard Tennis Center in Eau Claire, Wis.
