Yellowjackets Scoot Past the Polars 14-5

SUPERIOR, Wis. - The Yellowjacket softball team continued their marathon week on Friday as they welcomed in Crown for the first game of a three game series. The Yellowjackets were able to push past the Polars for the 14-5 win in five innings.
Game Notes:
  • Crown struck first leading 1-0 but the 'Jackets answered right back. Larissa Snyder (Blaine, Minn./Spring Lake Park) hit a two RBI triple that scored Carly Stuckmayer (Delano, Minn./Delano) and Peyton Bennett (Harrisburg, S.D./Harrisburg). Snyder would come in and score a pitch later courtesy of an RBI single from MyKenzie Leccia (Somerset, Wis./Somerset)
  • The Yellowjackets broke it open in the second starting with a Bennett RBI and a three run double from Leccia. Samantha Swartz (Antigo, Wis./Antigo) singled home Leccia before she would come around to score off a hit from Karen Balabon (Elk River, Minn./Elk River) to make the score 10-1.
  • Two more Yellowjacket runs would score in the inning as Sophia Otto (Mequon, Wis./Homestead) knocked in Delaney Johnson (Ellsworth, Wis./Ellsworth) before she would later come into score to make 12-1.
  • Crown added a run in the third but the 'Jackets would tack on two more in the fourth as a Jade Kolbe (Independence, Minn./Orono) sac-fly scored both Kylie Hochsprung (Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville North) and Megan Witt (Burnsville, Minn./Eagan)
  • Crown was able to hang three runs in the fifth but Swartz was able to close out the Polars to polish off the 14-5 win.
  • Abby Mitchell (Cloquet, Minn./Carlton) earned the win in the circle pitching four innings and striking out three batters.
  • Leccia paced the 'Jackets offensively with two hits and four RBIs.
The Yellowjackets and Polars square off again tomorrow for games two and three of their UMAC series. First pitch is scheduled for 11 a.m. at the NBC Sports Complex.
