Yellowjackets Sweep Doubleheader Against Minnesota Morris

MORRIS, Minn. - After falling in their series opener to Minnesota Morris yesterday the Yellowjacket softball team was back in action today. This time Superior was able to take care of business and beat the Cougars 6-2 and 8-2. 
Game 1 Notes:
  • The Yellowjackets broke open the scoring in the fifth inning getting a run from Kylie Zwak (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East) who scored via an error. 
  • Larissa Snyder (Blaine, Minn./Spring Lake Park) drove in two more runs for the 'Jackets with a double. Snyder would come into score the next batter as she was driven in by MyKenzie Leccia (Somerset, Wis./Somerset)
  • The Yellowjackets added two more runs in the sixth Kylie Hochsprung (Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville North) drove in Zwak before she scored courtesy of Carly Stuckmayer (Delano, Minn./Delano).
  • Morris scored twice in the second but Abby Mitchell (Cloquet, Minn./Carlton) shut the door. For Mitchell she pitched all seven innings striking out eight Cougar batters.
Game 2 Notes: 
  • The 'Jackets got two runs in the first as a Leccia single drove in Stuckmayer and an error allowed Snyder to score. 
  • In the third Leccia again drove in Stuckmayer this time on an RBI double. Morris was able to score a run in the bottom half of the inning to make it 3-1.
  • In the fourth Hochsprung drove in Zwak on an RBI double before being driven in by Stuckmayer. Snyder would bring in Stuckmayer with an RBI triple before scoring courtesy of an RBI double from Leccia. 
  • Morris added a run in the six to make it 7-2 but the 'Jackets added insurance as Megan Witt (Burnsville, Minn./Eagan) drove in Samantha Swartz (Antigo, Wis./Antigo) to make it 8-2. 
  • Bethany Lewis (Antigo, Wis./Antigo) piched all seven innings for the 'Jackets allowing seven hits and striking out two. 
The Yellowjackets now turn their attention to the UMAC Tournament. They will face Bethany Lutheran at Reynolds Field in St. Paul, Minn. for updates on game times stay tuned to uwsyellowjackets.com.
