ST. PAUL, Minn. - The Yellowjacket softball team began their quest for a UMAC Championship with their first-round matchup against Bethany Lutheran. The Vikings offense scored two runs early, which was enough to carry them to the 2-0 victory over the Yellowjackets.  

Game Notes: 

• The Vikings scored one in the first, getting a double from Carly Nelson. Addie Ahern made it 2-0 in the second, launching a home run.  

• The Yellowjackets had runners in scoring position in the fifth but couldn't muster a run.  

• The Yellowjackets had the bases loaded in the seventh, but no runs scored as the Vikings shut down Superior. 

• Abby Mitchell (Cloquet, Minn./Carlton) pitched six innings for Superior, allowing five hits while striking out eight batters.  

• Sophia Otto (Mequon, Wis./Homestead) had three of the six Superior hits going 3-3 on the day.  

The Yellowjackets will face Minnesota Morris tomorrow at 1:30 p.m. from Reynolds Field in St. Paul. If the 'Jackets win they will face the loser of Bethany Lutheran and Northwestern at 4 p.m.
