SUPERIOR, Wis. – The Yellowjacket men's soccer team played its first home match of the new campaign Wednesday, taking on Gustavus Adolphus in non-conference play. The first half featured the Golden Gusties score three goals within six minutes, leading to their 3-0 victory in Superior.
Match Notes
- Kieran Mahan made an impact right away, scoring three goals under six minutes. His first goal at the 14th minute of play saw an assist from Evan Afdahl, while his second goal garnered an assist from Henrry Abarca-Gonzalez three minutes later. His third goal came unassisted at the 19th minute.
- The Gusties led in total shots 6-5, while also leading in shots on goal 5-3 in the first half.
- Bryce Boldt (Waupaca, Wis./Waupaca) and James Colt (London, England/Chiswick School) led with two shots apiece in the contest among starters, while Giacomo Ruggiero (Toronto, Ontario/Phillip Pocock Catholic) followed with two of his own off the bench.
- Mahan led the Gusties with four total shots.
- In net for the Yellowjackets, Luke Lockman (Mequon, Wis./Homestead) drew the start and played 45 minutes. Relieving him in the latter half was Henry Ruhland (River Falls, Wis./River Falls).
Superior stays at home Saturday where they host Saint John's (Minn.). The opening kickoff is set for 2:30 p.m. at SCCU Stadium.
