SUPERIOR, Wis. – The Yellowjacket women's soccer team was originally planned to open the 2026 regular season on the road against St. Olaf, but due to excessive heat in Minnesota, both teams agreed to swap their match to a cooler climate of SCCU Stadium in Superior. The Oles found the back of the net once in the first half and would capitalize on a pair of Yellowjacket miscues, coming away with a 3-0 win Friday evening.
Match Notes
- During the 23rd minute of play, St. Olaf's Emma Boyle and Rachel Anderson set up Emily Johnson for a right-footed shot to the right side of the net, giving the Oles an early advantage.
- Both teams exchanged a total of 22 shots in the first half, with the Oles leading 13-9. Superior led with six shots on goal compared to the Oles' four.
- The second goal for the Oles came off an own goal from the Yellowjacket backline, giving St. Olaf a 2-0 lead at the 65th minute.
- Nearly three minutes later, Johnson scored her second of the match after she dispossessed Superior's keeper, extending St. Olaf's lead to three goals.
- Cayley Larsen (Duluth, Minn./Denfeld) drew the start in net, making 11 saves.
- Emma Wright (Bemidji, Minn./Bemidji) had three shots on net on the evening.
The Yellowjackets are back home Sunday where they take on UW-Stout Polytechnic in non-conference play. The opening kickoff is set for 2 p.m. at SCCU Stadium.
