Kolin Dean enters his third season at the helm of the UW-Superior men's and women's tennis team in 2020 after being hired in December 2016.
Dean has led the both men's and women's teams to Upper Midwest Athletic Conference tournament berths each of his first two seasons. For the second consecutive season under Dean, the Yellowjackets advanced to the UMAC semifinals as the No. 3 seed on both the men's and women's sides. The men finished 7-11 overall and 5-2 in the UMAC. The women finished 8-9 and 5-2 in the league in 2019.
In 2018, the men's team posted a 10-7 overall record while going 5-2 in the UMAC in its inaugural season, and the women were 9-10 overall and 5-2 in conference play. Both UWS squads earned the No. 3 seed in their respective conference tournaments advancing to the UMAC semifinals.
In his first two seasons as head coach, Dean has mentored three men's All-UMAC First Team selections and four from the women's team. He was named 2018 UMAC Women's Tennis Coach of the Year.
Dean honed his coaching craft at the Scholastica, where he served as an assistant coach for three seasons. He helped the Saints' women's program reach two consecutive NCAA tournaments and assisted in driving the men's program to its best season ever in 2014, finishing the year 22-3.
In addition to working at St. Scholastica, Dean is the co-head tennis professional at Arrowhead Tennis and Athletic Center in Duluth, Minn., as well as serving as the head tennis professional at Northland Country Club.
Dean competed Collegiately at the St. Scholastica for four years and owns the third-highest doubles winning percentage in school history. He was part of four Saints teams that won UMAC regular-season championships and three teams that won the UMAC tournament. Dean was named All-UMAC twice and served as the Saints' team captain as a senior.
A native of Rhinelander, Wis., Dean graduated from St. Scholastica in 2013 with a health sciences degree. He resides in Proctor, Minn., with his wife Anna. The couple welcomed its first child, a girl named Sutton on April 15, 2019.
