Brian Hakanson is in his second season as an assistant men's and women's track and field coach for head coach Glen Drexler in 2023-24. His main duties are overseeing the long and triple jump efforts.
Hakanson graduated from UW-Superior in 1999 with a bachelor's degree in health and human performance. He competed for five years and also served as a student-coach for the 1998-99 season.
During his five years with the Yellowjackets, Hakanson accumulated various accolades. These include being a four-time most valuable men's track and field athlete, second place in the long jump in the 1997 outdoor season, five-time medalist in the WSUC/WIAC Championships, three-time WSUC/WIAC field athlete of the week, and four-time finalist for Yellowjacket athlete of the year (1994-97). Additionally, Hakanson held six Yellowjacket records at the time of his graduation, which includes the indoor/outdoor long jump, indoor triple jump, outdoor 4x800 relay, indoor distance medley relay, and the indoor 4x200 relay.
Hakanson resides in Foxboro with his wife Carissa. They have two children, daughter Sophia and son Edward, who is a member of the Yellowjacket men's track and field team.
