Brian Hakanson enters his fourth season as an assistant coach for the men’s and women’s track and field teams under Head Coach Glen Drexler for the 2025–26 season. He primarily oversees the program’s long jump and triple jump events.
Hakanson earned his Bachelor of Science degree in health and human performance from UW-Superior in 1999. During his collegiate career, he competed for five seasons and also served as a student coach during the 1998-99 campaign.
During his time competing for the Yellowjackets, Hakanson earned numerous accolades. He was a four-time Most Valuable Men’s Track and Field Athlete and a five-time medalist at the WSUC/WIAC Championships, highlighted by a second-place finish in the long jump, earning him all-conference honors in 1997. Hakanson was also recognized as WSUC/WIAC Field Athlete of the Week three times and was a four-time finalist for Yellowjacket Athlete of the Year (1994–97). At the time of his graduation, Hakanson held six program records, including the indoor and outdoor long jump, indoor triple jump, outdoor 4x800-meter relay, indoor distance medley relay, and indoor 4x200-meter relay.
Hakanson resides in Foxboro with his wife, Carissa. They have two children: daughter Sophia and son Edward, who is currently a member of the Yellowjacket men’s track and field team.
