A week ago the Yellowjacket women's basketball team made history by picking up their fifth straight win, establishing a school record.  And five wins is what the record will remain for the time being, as the women's basketball team saw their winning streak fall by the wayside on Saturday, falling 86-55 at the hand of UW-Whitewater.

The Yellowjackets never led in this one, a game where they fell behind by a big margin early and were never able to climb out of the hole.  The Warhawks scored the first 14 points of the game, building a double-digit lead before the game was four minutes old.  The Yellowjackets finally got on the board with 4:13 having elapsed when Connie Urmanski (Edgar, Wis./Edgar) hit a three-pointer to make it 14-3.  That did little to stop the bleeding, however, and by the midpoint of the first half the deficit was 25.  Whitewater's hot shooting continued, as they shot 48.5% from the field in the first half and led 43-26 at the break.  Urmanski led the way for the Yellowjackets, scoring a team-high six points in the first half.

in the second half it was more of the same, as the Warhawks saw their shooting percentage get even better, shooting 57.1% in the second half.  With 4:58 to play the lead bulged to a game-high 31 points at 82-51.  The teams would trade baskets in the remaining five minutes and Whitewater cruised to the win.

Bri Davis (Hermantown, Minn./Hermantown) led the Yellowjackets with 12 points hitting five of six from the field.  She was the only scorer in double figures for the Yellowjackets.  Hailey Hart (Osseo, Wis./Osseo-Fairchild) and Urmanski finished with nine points apiece.  Hart had a team-high eight rebounds.  Deandra Vavra (Cambridge, Minn./Cambridge-Isanti) led the Yellowjackets with four assists.  Davis led the Yellowjackets in blocks (1) and steals (2).

Courtney Kumerow scored 22 points to lead the Warhawks, who also got 13 points apiece from Kaitlyn Thill and Mary Merg.

Milestone Update: Hart's nine points gives her 950 for her career, putting her 30 points behind Ann DeBruin for seventh place on the all-time scoring chart.  Davis has 823 points, ten behind Geraldine Papenfuss for number-13 all-time.  Hart jumped into eighth place on the all-time rebound list with 558.  She is just three shy of Ann DeBruin at number-seven.

The Yellowjackets (9-6, 3-4 WIAC) will look to bounce back and start another winning streak when they travel to UW-River Falls to take on the Falcons on Wednesday, January 18 at 7:00 p.m.
