Box Score

CLERMONT, FLA.,--The Yellowjackets took advantage of Manchester College's early pitching struggles en route to a 5-1 win.

Manchester got on the board first when Kendall Jefferies led the game off with a single.  She moved up to second base on a Shannon Stephan groundout.  Up to bat next was Amy Hommema and she smoked a double to the right field fence that put runners on second and third base.  That set up a Kayla Yates sacrifice fly that scored Jefferies to give Manchester College a 1-0 lead.

The Yellowjackets came right back in the bottom of the first inning when Taylor VanDamme (Superior, Wis./Superior High School), Chelsey Jarzin (Superior, Wis./Superior High School), and Whitney Brugman (Marquette, Mich./Marquette) led things off with three straight walks.  Two batters later, Elle Niemala walked with the bases loaded, scoring VanDamme to tie the game 1-1.  After Kayla Blom (Alborn, Minn./Albrook High School) hit a sharp line drive for the second out, Ashlee Olson (Superior, Wis./Superior High School) walked with the bases loaded, scoring Jarzin to give the Yellowjackets a 2-1 lead.

The Yellowjackets continued to roll in the second inning.  After Kayla Anderson (Clayton, Wis./Clayton High School) was hit by a pitch and VanDamme walked, Manchester made a pitching change, going with Brittney Wetzel.  Jarzin laid down a perfect sacrifice bunt, moving both runners into scoring position and setting up a sacrifice fly by Brugman, scoring Anderson to widen the Yellowjacket lead to 3-1.

Later Lindsay Garay (Lake Nebagamon, Wis./Northwestern High School) hit a hard groundball that was bobbled, allowing VanDamme to score, making it 4-1.  Niemala capped off the scoring for the game, hitting a single up the middle, scoring Garay from second base to make the score 5-1.

Amanda LeBard (Superior, Wis./) went the distance on the rubber, allowing one run on seven hits while walking no batters and striking out two.

Niemala, Olson, and Kristen Haider (Dassel, Minn./Dassel-Cokato) each had one hit for the Yellowjackets.

Yellowjackets 5, Indiana Tech 0
Box Score

The Yellowjackets completed their first doubleheader sweep of the 2012 season by beating Indiana Tech 5-0 in game two on Monday.

The Yellowjackets got things rolling in the second inning when Niemala roped a double into the left field gap.  Blom moved her to third base with a sacrifice bunt.  Olson finished the job, driving in Niemala with a double to give the Yellowjackets a 1-0 lead.  Sarah Stansfield (Hermantown, Minn./Hermantown High School) hit a sharp single to right field, driving in Olson to widen the Yellowjacket lead to 2-0.

Another run came across in the third inning when Brugman walked and scored on an RBI double by Garay to make the score 3-0.  Haider put an exclamation point on the game when she blasted a two-run home run to right-center field in the sixth inning to make the final score 5-0.

Garay got the pitching start, allowing no runs on seven hits while walking two and striking out three.  Besides Haider's homerun, the Yellowjackets were led at the plate by Jarzin, who had three singles.  Niemala was the other Yellowjacket with a multiple hit game, coming up with a double and single.
