March 28 baseball games rescheduled

Upon its return from a very successful spring trip to Arizona, the Yellowjacket baseball team was scheduled to return to action with a late-night doubleheader against St. Olaf College at Mall of America Field in Minneapolis, Minn. on Wednesday, March 28.  That plan has now been scrapped.

The teams will meet for a single, nine-inning game on Thursday, March 29 beginning at 2:00 p.m. The game will be played at the home of the Oles, Mark Almli Field in Northfield, Minn.

"With the weather being as nice as it has been, their field is playable so we elected to move the game there," said Yellowjacket head coach Eddy Morgan.  "Instead of playing in the middle of the night at the Metrodome, we can play a day game outside.  And instead of two, we can play one nine-inning game."

There will also be a junior varsity game following the regular game.

"Both coaches agreed to make the second game a JV contest and get some playing time for some of the young playets that haven't gotten much game action yet," Morgan said.  "This works out well for both teams.  It's going to be a good day to see what some players can do in game situations that may not have gotten that chance thus far."

The Yellowjackets, following Thursday's game will dive into their WIAC schedule, beginning with a pair of doubleheaders Saturday, March 31 and Sunday, March 1 at UW-Oshkosh.  Their first home games will be on Saturday, April 21 and Sunday, April 22 when they host UW-Platteville for four games.  Both doubleheaders will begin at noon.
