MENOMONIE, Wis.—The Yellowjackets were finally able to get hits with runners on base as they cruised past UW-Stout 11-0 in game one of the WIAC doubleheader.
 
The Yellowjackets started their run-scoring tear in the third inning when Whitney Brugman (Marquette, Mich./Marquette) singled to left field and moved up to second base on a bunt single by Kristen Haider (Dassel, Minn./Dassel-Cokato)Sarah Stansfield (Hermantown, Minn./Hermantown High School) would bunt both runners into scoring position and Taylor VanDamme (Superior, Wis./Superior High School) would drive them home on a single to put the Yellowjackets up 2-0.
 
Chelsey Jarzin (Superior, Wis./Superior High School) added a single to keep the third inning alive.  Ashlee Olson (Superior, Wis./Superior High School) followed that up with a double down the left field line, sending Jarzin to third base.  Elle Niemala finished the job, hitting a single that scored Jarzin and Olson to push the Yellowjacket lead to 4-0.
 
The Yellowjackets put the game out of reach in the fifth inning, exploding with seven runs.  Olson started the attack with a double down the left field line, her second of the game.  Niemala followed that up with a double to right field, sending Olson home to make the score 5-0.  Kayla Blom (Alborn, Minn./Albrook High School) would drive in Niemala with a sharp single to right field to push the score to 6-0.  Blom moved to third base when Brugman reached on an error, and she would score on a Haider sacrifice fly to make the score 7-0.
 
Kayla Anderson (Clayton, Wis./Clayton High School) was hit by a pitch to put two runners on for VanDamme, who blasted a three-run home run to widen the margin to 10-0.  The home run was only the second hit by the Yellowjackets all season.  The Yellowjackets closed out the scoring when Olson hit her third double of the game, scoring Jarzin to make the score 11-0.  Jarzin previously reached on base with a walk.
 
Amanda Le Bard (Superior, Wis./Superior High School) went the distance on the rubber, blanking the Blue Devils on just one hit while walking one and striking out four.  Olson's three doubles paced the Yellowjacket offense.

The Yellowjackets and Blue Devils went at it for 11 innings, fighting for that run to put their team on top.  In the end it was the Blue Devils who prevailed, squeaking out a 5-4 win.
 
Stout got on the scoreboard first in the second inning when Jessica Behnke and Sam Stout hit back-to-back singles.  Erin Moss drove in Behnke to put the Blue Devils up 1-0. 
 
The Yellowjackets tied the game up 1-1 in the fifth inning when VanDamme hit a monster home run over the center field fence. The home run was VanDamme's second of the doubleheader.
 
The Blue Devils answered with a run in the fifth inning when Moss bunted for a single and advanced to second base on a sacrifice bunt by Sam Hastings.  Taylor Workman would hit a single up the middle, bringing home Moss to give the Blue Devils a 2-1 lead. 
 
In the seventh inning, VanDamme led off with a triple to left field.  Jarzin followed that up with a walk to put runners on the corners.  Niemala then doubled, scoring VanDamme to tie the game at 2-2.  The Yellowjackets would take a 3-2 lead later in the inning on a Lindsay Garay (Lake Nebagamon, Wis./Northwestern High School) single that scored Jarzin.
 
The Blue Devils tied the game in the bottom of the seventh inning when Alison Gray walked and advanced to second on a wild pitch.  Workman got the job done, driving home Gray on a double to center field to make the score 3-3, forcing extra innings.
 
After two scoreless innings, the Yellowjackets struck first in the tenth inning when Blom singled and moved to second base on a Brugman sacrifice bunt.  Blom eventually moved to third base on a Haider groundout.  Anderson came up huge with a clutch, two-out single up the middle to put the Yellowjackets up 4-3. 
 
The Blue Devils came right back in the bottom of the tenth inning when Hastings and Courtney Richardson came up with back-to-back singles.  Hastings eventually scored on a fielder's choice and the game was again deadlocked.
 
Garay took over the pitching duties for the Yellowjackets in the 11th inning.  Hannah Sweet started the inning off with a single and Jessica Nicol ended it, hitting a double to right field that sent Sweet all the way home to give the Blue Devils the 5-4 win. 
 
Le Bard pitched the first ten innings for the Yellowjackets, allowing four runs (three earned) on 12 hits while walking six and striking out five.  Garay took the loss for the Yellowjackets, allowing a run on two hits.  Garay led the Yellowjackets with three hits.
 
The Yellowjackets (8-13, 2-6 WIAC) will play their first home game of the season Wednesday, April 18 when they will face the College of St. Scholastica at Liebaert Field.  First pitch of the doubleheader is at 3:00 p.m. and can be viewed live via webcast at www.ifan.tv.
