Box Score

SUPERIOR, Wis.—The Yellowjackets came back to tie the game and send it to extra innings, but came up short in the eighth as they lost to UW-Oshkosh 7-5 in game one.  It was the second day in a row that the Yellowjackets dropped a game in extra innings.

The Titans struck first when Katie Koepsel led the second inning off with a triple and came home on a Tess Fadness groundout to make the score 1-0.

Koepsel and Fadness led off the fourth inning with back-to-back singles.  Julia Burns replaced Fadness on first base because of a fielder's choice, which also sent Koepsel to third.  After Burns stole second, Kelley Koebler smacked a double to right field that scored both baserunners to widen the Titan lead to 3-0.   The Titans would add another run when Emily Mallek drove in Koebler to make the score 4-0.

The Yellowjackets responded in the bottom half of the fourth inning when Lindsay Garay (Lake Nebagamon, Wis./Northwestern High School) and Kayla Blom (Alborn, Minn./Albrook High School) singled and Whitney Brugman (Marquette, Mich./Marquette) walked to load the bases.  Kristen Haider (Dassel, Minn./Dassel-Cokato) drove in all three with a triple to put the Yellowjackets within one run at 4-3.

The Titans added to the lead in the fifth inning when Julie Sweeney singled to left field and came around to score on a Koepsel double, making it 5-3.

The Yellowjackets tied the game 5-5 in the sixth inning when Chelsey Jarzin (Superior, Wis./Superior High School) walked, Kayla Anderson (Clayton, Wis./Clayton High School) was hit by a pitch and Taylor VanDamme (Superior, Wis./Superior High School) walked to load the bases.  After Ashlee Olson (Superior, Wis./Superior High School) reached on a fielder's choice, Elle Niemala hit a two-run single that scored VanDamme and Jarzin.

Koepsel led off the eighth inning for the Titans, hitting a single up the middle.  After she moved to second base on a sacrifice bunt by Fadness, she came in to score on a Burns double to put the Titans up 6-5.  Burns eventually scored when Hayley Freimuth singled to make the score 7-5.

Garay pitched a complete game for the Yellowjackets, giving up seven runs on 15 hits while walking three and striking out six.  Garay, Blom, and Olson each had two hits for the Yellowjackets.

Yellowjackets 4, Oshkosh 2
Box Score

The Yellowjackets rebounded in game two with a 4-2 win, but it wasn't enough to put them in the WIAC playoff field and their season came to an end.

The Titans lit the scoreboard first in the second inning when Fadness singled and Burns and Demi Kastein were hit by a pitch to load the bases.  Emily Mallek drove in Fadness and Burns with a single to give the Titans a 2-0 lead.

The Yellowjackets responded with a big third inning when Jarzin led off with a double and Haider hit an infield single that put runners on the corners.  VanDamme drove in Jarzin with a single to cut the Titan lead in half at 2-1.  Olson bunted for a single to load the bases, and after Niemala reached on a fielder's choice, Blom hit a two-run single that scored VanDamme and Olson to give the Yellowjackets a 3-2 lead.

Jarzin helped the Yellowjacket offense in the fourth inning when she hit an infield single.  After stealing second base and advancing to third base on an error, she scored on a Haider groundout to make the score 4-2.

Amanda Le Bard (Superior, Wis./Superior High School) went the distance on the rubber for the Yellowjackets.  She allowed two runs on four hits while walking three and striking out five.  Jarzin led the Yellowjacket offense, going 2-for-3.
