Game 1
La Crosse 2, Yellowjackets 0
Box Score

The Yellowjackets had a tough time trying to get the barrel of the bat to meet the ball in the first game on Friday and they got shut out 2-0 by UW-La Crosse.

The Eagles put their first run of the game on the scoreboard in the third inning when Emily Sobocinski walked.  Katie Fink followed that up with a double to left center field, moving Sobocinski to third base.  Ashley Flaschenriem was intentionally walked to load the bases for Lindsey Sheehan, would hit an RBI sacrifice fly, scoring Sobocinski to make the score 1-0 Eagles.

La Crosse built on that in the fifth inning when Flaschenriem doubled off the left-center field fence.  Sheehan followed that up with another double that moved Cheri Pertzborn, who pinch ran for Flaschenriem, to third base.  Katie Keyes was intentionally walked to load the bases for Lacey Probst, who produced an RBI sacrifice fly to widen the Eagle lead to 2-0.

Eagle pitcher Lauren Beres took a perfect game into the seventh inning, but it ended there when Chelsey Jarzin (Superior, Wis./Superior High School) led off with a bunt single.  This has been the second time this season that Jarzin broke up a no-hitter late in the game, the other game being when the Yellowjackets took on Eastern Connecticut State University on March 23.  The Yellowjackets would add a second hit in the inning, but that was all they could muster and they were blanked in game one.

Amanda Le Bard (Superior, Wis./Superior High School) went the distance on the rubber, allowing two runs on four hits while walking four and striking out two.  Jarzin and Taylor VanDamme (Superior, Wis./Superior High School) each had a hit for the Yellowjackets.

Game 2
Yellowjackets 6, UW- La Crosse 5
Box Score

The Yellowjackets rebounded with more offense and they picked up their first conference win in the 2012 season, taking game two from UW-La Crosse 6-5.

The Yellowjackets set the tone in the first inning when Jarzin led off with an infield single.  She would eventually move to third base on groundouts by Elle Niemala and VanDamme.  Lindsay Garay (Lake Nebagamon, Wis./Northwestern High School) finished the job when she blooped a single to right field, driving in Jarzin to put the Yellowjackets up 1-0.

The Eagles answered with two runs of their own in the bottom of the first inning.  Fink singled up the middle and was brought home on a double by Sheehan to tie the game up 1-1.  Keyes would smack a single to left field to put runners on the corners.  Sheehan would later score when a Jarzin pick-off attempt to third sailed high to give the Eagles a 2-1 lead.

La Crosse added another run in the third inning when Flaschenriem led off with a double.  Kristin Goesser pinch ran for her, moving up to third base on a ground out by Sheehan.  Keyes walked in the next at-bat to put runners on the corners.  In the next at-bat, a hit-and-run play fooled the Yellowjackets, scoring Flaschenriem to stretch the lead to 3-1.

The Yellowjackets responded in the fourth inning when VanDamme and Garay led off with back-to-back hits.  With VanDamme and Garay in scoring position, Whitney Brugman (Marquette, Mich./Marquette) drove in VanDamme on a ground out to narrow the Eagle lead to 3-2.  Ashlee Olson (Superior, Wis./Superior High School) was hit by a pitch and Kayla Blom (Alborn, Minn./Albrook High School) followed by reaching base on an error to load the bases for Kayla Anderson (Clayton, Wis./Clayton High School).  Anderson prevailed with a single to right field, driving in Garay and Olson to give the Yellowjackets a 4-3 lead.

The Yellowjackets added two more runs in the fifth inning when VanDamme led off with a single and was moved to second base on a Garay ground out.  Olson and Blom followedwith back-to-back RBI doubles to push the Yellowjacket lead to 6-3.

La Crosse answered with a run when Kelli Anderson hit a monster solo home run to narrow the Yellowjacket lead to 6-4.  The Eagles added another run in the seventh inning when Kylie Kaiser walked.  Fink reached on a fielder's choice, sending Kaiser to third.  Kaiser eventually came home on a sacrifice fly by Flaschenriem to get within one run of the Yellowjackets, making the score 6-5.

Le Bard pitched her second complete game of the day, allowing five runs (three earned) on six hits while walking five and striking out three.
