Yellowjackets 3, Northland 1
Box Score

After their victory over Lakehead, the Yellowjackets had a break as the Thunderwolves took on Northland College in another exhibition.  Just two hours after their first win, the Yellowjackets took the court against Northland in a match that would count in the season's record.  And although they got the win, things took a bit longer than expected as they let the third set get away from them.  Still they prevailed by scores of 25-15, 25-12, 23-25 and 25-17 to improve to 8-1 on the young season.

Lead by Kitty Tynen (Stillwater, Minn./Stillwater) with nine kills and followed by Nikki Gosson (Mankato, Minn./Mankato East) and Emily Kadlec (Mora, Minn./Mora) who had seven kills apeice the Yellowjackets were able to defeat Nothland 3-1.  After taking the first two sets by 10 and 13 points, respectively, Nothland College was able to sneak up and take one back from the Yellowjackets in the tight third set.  However, after getting down early again in the fourth set, the Yellowjackets came roaring back, turning on the heat to pull away in the final set, winning it 25-17.

Keely Deadrick (Esko, Minn./Esko) had 37 assists four aces, while Farrah Wirtz (Esko, Minn./Esko) contributed 20 of the Yellowjackets' 57 digs and had a team-high five aces.  Gosson also had two of the Yellowjackets' six blocks in the match.

The Yellowjackets (8-1, 0-0 WIAC) will travel to the Macalester College tournament on September 14 and 14 where they will play matches against Carleton College, Presentation College, Minnesota-Morris and Macalester College.  They will return home to host their second UW-Superior triangle on Tuesday, September 18 at Mertz Mortorelli Gym.  They will take on Lakehead University out of Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada at 4:00 p.m. and the College of St. Scholastica at 8:00 p.m.  Lakehead and St. Scholastica will play in between at 6:00 p.m.
