Box Score

The Yellowjackets were able to tack on five runs, which is the most they have scored in a conference game this season.  However, they gave up nine run; the most they have given up in a conference game this season.

Unlike any other game this season, it was the Yellowjackets who lit the scoreboard up first.  Ashley Martin (Superior, Wis./Superior High School) led off the third inning when she reached on a UW-Oshkosh error, then advanced to second base on a Britnee Blake (Superior, Wis./Superior Senior) infield single.  After each advancing a base on a Elle Niemela (Cokato, Minn./Dassel-Cokato) sacriice bunt, Martin scored on Nicolle Gross (Coleraine, Minn./Greenway)'s groundout to give the Yellowjackets a 1-0 lead.  Whitney Brugman (Marquette, Mich./Marquette) knocked Blake home when she doubled to left field to extend the Yellowjacket lead to 2-0.

Kaelyn Hogan cut that lead in half in the bottom of the third inning on a home run over the left field fence to make the score 2-1.

The Yellowjackets added another run in the fourth inning when Sally Linzmeier (Valders, Wis./Valders) laid down a bunt single.  She later came around to score on Martin's double to right center field to extend the Yellowjacket lead to 3-1.

The Titans came right back in the bottom of the fourth inning when Emily Mallek blasted a home run to make the score 3-2.

Niemela and Brugman responded in the fifth inning when they each hit a solo home run to extend the Yellowjacket lead to 5-2.

However, it was all Titans from here on out.  The key difference was the fact that the Titans hit their home runs with runners on base.  Hogan led off the fifth inning with a walk followed by a Kassie Krueger single up the middle.  After each advanced a base on Hayden Krueger's sacrifice bunt, Hogan scored on a Taylor Loew groundout to make the score 5-3.  Katie Koespel eventually tied the game 5-5 when she clubbed a two-run home run to center field.

Koespel wasn't done yet.

She also gave the Titans the lead for good in the sixth inning when she smacked a grand slam over the left center field fence to make the score 9-5.

Amanda Le Bard (Superior, Wis./Superior High School) took the loss on the rubber for the Yellowjackets.  She pitched 1 1/3 innings, giving up four runs on three hits while striking out one and walking three.

Koespel continued to break the Yellowjackets' hearts with another home run, thus helping UW-Oshkosh achieve a 6-3 victory.

The Yellowjackets struck first once again when Martin led off the first inning with a walk and came around to score on a Niemela double to give the Yellowjackets a 1-0 lead.

The Titans responded in the bottom half of the first inning when Haley Bayreuther reached on an error, then advanced to third base on a wild Yellowjacket throw.  Tess Fadness drove in Bayreuther with a single down the left field line to tie the game at a run a piece.

Hayden Krueger and Bayreuther set the tone for the Titans in the second inning with a single and hit by pitch to put runners on first and second base.  This got Koespel licking her chops as she hit a three-run home run to left field to give the Titans a 4-1 lead.  Fadness followed that up with a home run for herself to make the score 5-1.

The Yellowjackets added a run in the fourth inning when Brugman singled to left field and came around to score on a Linzmeier RBI-single to make the score 5-2.

The Titans scored their sixth run in the fourth inning when Koespel tagged up from third base on a Jill Vondrak foul out to extend their lead to 6-2.

Martin added a run for the Yellowjackets in the fifth inning when she singled and advanced to third base on Blake's infield single before scoring on a wild pitch to make the score 6-3.

Le Bard took the pitching loss for the Yellowjackets.  She tossed 1 2/3 innings giving up five runs (four earned) on five hits while walking one and striking out two.

The Yellowjackets (9-16, 0-8 WIAC) will return to action on Friday (Apr. 19th).  They will take on UW-La Crosse at Liebaert Field in Superior, Wis. weather pending.  First pitch is at 3:00 p.m.
