Box Score

With playoff implications on the line, the Yellowjackets knew these last two games were must win situations.  They would prevail with a 8-0 win knowing what was at stake.

The Yellowjackets got the offense rolling in the first inning when a Ashley Martin (Superior, Wis./Superior High School) walk, a Britnee Blake (Superior, Wis./Superior Senior) double, and a Elle Niemela (Cokato, Minn./Dassel-Cokato) double loaded the bases.  Whitney Brugman (Marquette, Mich./Marquette) drove in the first Yellowjacket run on a sacrifice fly to give them a 1-0 lead.  Lindsay Garay (Lake Nebagamon, Wis./Northwestern High School) followed that with an RBI-single up the middle to make the score 2-0.  The Yellowjackets added two more runs when Melissa Clark (Carlton, Minn./Carlton) drove in Garay and Niemela to make the score 4-0.

A big three run third inning helped put the Yellowjackets over the edge.  Garay walked and Kelly Carlson (Cloquet, Minn./Cloquet High School) pinch ran for her.  Carlson would come around to score on Clark's double to make the score 5-0.  Summer Lindelien (Rosemount, Minn./Rosemount High School) pushed the score to 6-0 when she drove in Clark on a single.  Martin later laid down a bunt single and came around to score on Megan Nelson (Carlton, Minn./Carlton)'s double to make the score 7-0.

The Yellowjackets added their final run in the fourth inning when Sally Linzmeier (Valders, Wis./Valders) came up with a sacrifice fly that scored Haley McNeil (Hill City, Minn./Hill City), who singled, to extend the Yellowjacket lead to 8-0.

Amanda Le Bard (Superior, Wis./Superior High School) pitched five innings for the Yellowjackets.  She gave up two hits while striking out two and walking one.

Box Score

With the Yellowjackets knowing the Falcons had the tie-breaker over them in the WIAC standings, a win in game two would give them a good shot at making the conference tournament.  Unfortunately things didn't go well for the Yellowjackets as they dropped game two 9-1.

After the Falcons took a 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning, the Yellowjackets responded with one run in the bottom half of the inning.  Niemela walked and McNeil singled to put runners on the corners for Brugman, who singled to make the score 3-1.

That was all the Yellowjackets were able to come up with as the Falcons closed out the game with six unanswered runs.  The Falcons added a run in the second inning when Sarah Bohlen drove in Hayley Buchanan with an RBI-double to make the score 4-1.  A big five run inning for the Falcons doomed the Yellowjackets in the game.  Bohlen and Amber O'Connell were a big part of that inning as they each produced two-run hits that put the Falcons over the edge.

Le Bard took the pitching loss for the Yellowjackets.  She gave up four runs (two earned) on three hits.

The Yellowjackets close out the 2013 season with a 15-18 record.
