Yellowjackets 4, UW-Stout 1
Box Score

The Yellowjackets continued to close in on a WIAC playoff bid with a 4-1 win over UW-Stout.

Three of the Yellowjacket runs came in the opening inning.  Ashley Martin (Superior, Wis./Superior High School) got things rolling for Superior when she led off with a double to right field and advanced to third base on Britnee Blake (Superior, Wis./Superior Senior)'s ground out.  This set up a Elle Niemela (Cokato, Minn./Dassel-Cokato) RBI- single up the middle to give the Yellowjackets a 1-0 lead.  Lindsay Garay (Lake Nebagamon, Wis./Northwestern High School) followed that up with an RBI-double of her own, scoring Niemela to extend the Yellowjacket lead to 2-0.  Whitney Brugman (Marquette, Mich./Marquette) added on to the slugfest with an RBI single that scored Garay to make the score 3-0.

The Blue Devils and Yellowjackets went on to trade runs to close out the game.   Martin's home run in the fifth inning gave the Yellowjackets a 4-0 lead before Alison Gray's seventh inning home run for UW-Stout made the score 4-1.

Amanda Le Bard (Superior, Wis./Superior High School) got the win on the rubber for the Yellowjackets.  In 6 1/3 innings of work, she gave up one run on four hits.

UW-Stout 9, Yellowjackets 3
Box Score

The Yellowjackets failed to deliver their third consecutive sweep in game two against UW-Stout, falling 9-3.

The Blue Devils had Yellowjacket pitcher Le Bard's number in the second inning.  Tori Workman and Kaitlin Stark produced back-to-back singles, setting up a Hannah Sweet three-run home run to give UW-Stout a 3-0 lead.

The Yellowjackets answered in the bottom half of the second inning when Haley McNeil (Hill City, Minn./Hill City), Katie Wilke (Baraboo, Wis./Baraboo), and Megan Nelson (Carlton, Minn./Carlton) came up with back-to-back-to -back walks.   Sasha Fjeran (Two Harbors, Minn./Two Harbors) delivered with a double to left field, scoring Wilke and Nelson to narrow the Blue Devil lead to 3-2.

UW-Stout responded with one more run in the third inning when Samantha Hastings and Erin Moss doubled and singled, putting runners on the corners.   Hastings would score on a double steal attempt to make the score 4-2.

The Blue Devils added four more runs in the fourth inning.  Much due to the solid hitting from Moss and Gray as they each hit a two-run double to extend the Blue Devil lead to 8-2.

The two teams closed out the contest trading runs.  The Yellowjackets struck first in the sixth inning when Sally Linzmeier (Valders, Wis./Valders) singled and came around to score on McNeil's double to make the score 8-3.  The Blue Devils added their run in the seventh inning when Tori Workman hit an RBI single to make the score 9-3.

Le Bard took the pitching loss for the Yellowjackets.  She tossed the first two innings, giving up four runs on five hits.

The Yellowjacket (14-17, 5-9 WIAC) will close out the regular season on Sunday (Apr. 28th).  They will take on UW-River Falls in River Falls, WI.  Game time is at 12:00 p.m.
