UW-Eau Claire 4, Yellowjackets 2
Box Score

Megan Nelson (Carlton, Minn./Carlton)'s pinch hit two-run bomb over the left field fence in the seventh inning pulled the Yellowjackets within two runs against the Blugolds.  However, that's all the Yellowjackets were able to muster as UW-Eau Claire doubled them up by a score of 4-2.

Jenny Hess got things rolling for the Blugolds in the first inning when she reached on an error by the Yellowjacket third base and advanced to second base on the bad throw.  She eventually advanced to third base on a perfectly executed Emily Haluska bunt, then scored on a Sarah Fern groundout to give the Blugolds a 1-0 lead.

The Blugolds touched the Yellowjackets up with two more runs in the third inning when Karen Hansen led-off by reaching on another fielding error by the third base and advancing to second base on a Hess sacrifice bunt.  Hansen touched home plate from second base on a Fern RBI-single to give the Blugolds a 2-0 lead.  Casey Arnold helped add another run for the Blugolds when she produced an RBI-single that scored Fern to extend the Blugold lead to 3-0.

Nikki Brooks gave the Blugolds a 4-0 lead in the sixth inning when she hit a massive home run over the left field fence.

The Yellowjackets generated a comeback in the seventh inning when Lindsay Garay (Lake Nebagamon, Wis./Northwestern High School) led-off with a double down the left field line.  With a runner on second base with one out, Yellowjacket head coach Roger Plachta had Nelson pinch hit for Kelly Carlson (Cloquet, Minn./Cloquet High School).  Plachta pushed the right button as Nelson came through with a two-run home run to pull the Yellowjackets within 4-2.

Nicolle Gross (Coleraine, Minn./Greenway) pitched a complete game for the Yellowjackets, tossing six innings allowing four runs (two earned) on four hits while walking a pair and striking out one.

UW-Stevens Point 8, Yellowjackets 0
Box Score

Coming off a huge late game home run by Megan Nelson (Carlton, Minn./Carlton), the momentum was in the Yellowjackets' court before the first pitch occured.  That went out the window when UW-Stevens Point took the lead for good in the first inning as they cruised to a 8-0 victory.

Paige Meulemans gave the Pointers a 1-0 lead in the opening inning with a solo home run over the left field fence.

The third inning proved to hurt the Yellowjackets as the Pointers torched them with four runs, all of them coming with two outs.  Sam Raddant got the scoring started when she doubled down the left field line and came around to score on a Brittany Sass single to make the score 2-0.  Sass advanced to second base on the play because of a bad Yellowjacket throw, and later scored on a Meulemans ground-rule double to extend the score to 3-0.  Katie Shuffer followed that up by cleaning the bases with a two-run home run to make the score 5-0.

The Pointers closed out the scoring in the fourth inning, clocking in with three runs.  Bekah Rennicke led the inning off with a single and advanced to third base on a Celina Romenesko ground rule double.  Maddie Sawdey advanced on an error to load the bases for Sass, who came through with a two run single up the middle to make the score 7-0.  The Pointers added one more run when Shulfer roped a single to center field, scoring Sawdey to make the score 8-0.

Amanda Le Bard (Superior, Wis./Superior High School) got the start for the Yellowjackets on the rubber, she hucked four innings allowing eight runs (seven earned) on ten hits while striking out two and walking one.

The Yellowjackets (9-10, 0-2 WIAC) will have a chance at redemption against the Blugolds and Pointers tomorrow (Apr. 7th) in Platteville, Wis..  They will take on UW-Stevens Point at 9:00 a.m. and UW-Eau Claire at 1:00 p.m.
