Winning is starting to become a habit for the Yellowjacket softball team. Since departing for Florida, the Yellowjackets have done nothing but win, and on Thursday they stretched their winning streak to nine games, winning games over the University of New England and St. Joseph's College.

Yellowjackets 10, New England 3

After a scoreless first inning the Yellowjacket offense came alive. Walks to Katie Wilke (Baraboo, Wis./Baraboo) and Nicolle Gross (Coleraine, Minn./Greenway) sandwiched around a Sasha Fjeran (Two Harbors, Minn./Two Harbors) single to load the bases with nobody out. Sally Linzmeier (Valders, Wis./Valders) singled to bring home the first run, and later in the inning a Whitney Brugman (Marquette, Mich./Marquette) ground out brought in another run to stake the Yellowjackets to a 2-0 lead.

New England settled in after the Yellowjackets scored and rallied to take the lead in the bottom of the fourth, plating three runs to take a 3-2 lead.

Linzmeier led off the top of the fifth with another single and moved to second on a bunt. After a Kristen Haider (Dassel, Minn./Dassel-Cokato) single put runners on the corners, a wild pitch advanced them both, and the Linzmeier run tied the game. After another walk and wild pitch the Yellowjackets had two runners in scoring position. Melissa Clark (Carlton, Minn./Carlton) came up next and cleared the bases, sending the ball over the fence for her third home run of the year and blowing the game open as the Yellowjackets pulled ahead 6-3.

In the top of the sixth the Yellowjackets added another run on a one-out single from Haley McNeil (Hill City, Minn./Hill City). Then in the top of the seventh Britnee Blake (Superior, Wis./Superior Senior) drove in one run and Haider brought home two with base hits to make the final score 10-3.

Haider had a great game at the plate for the Yellowjackets, going 4-for-5 and driving in a pair. Five other players had two hits in the game as the Yellowjackets knocked out 15 hits in the game.

Gross earned her eighth win of the season, going the distance for the complete game win. She allowed three earned runs on five hits in seven innings. She struck out five without allowing any walks.

Yellowjackets 8, St. Joseph's 0

The second game of the day was all about the pitching for the Yellowjackets, as Sarah Hendrickson (Duluth, Minn./Denfeld) put on a show. The freshman was dominant on the pitching rubber, hurling a no-hitter and striking out ten to lead the Yellowjackets to an 8-0 win. It was the fifth win of the year for Hendrickson, whose record now stands at 5-2.

All the offense the Yellowjackets would need came in the top of the first when they scored a pair of runs.

Blake led off with a single and scored on an error. Later in the inning Wilke singled, scoring Haider to give the Yellowjackets a 2-0 edge.

In the third Wilke again did the damage, this time driving in two runs with a ground rule double to increase the lead to four runs.

The Yellowjackets closed out the scoring with a four-run fourth inning. Shelly Misco (Appleton, Wis./Appleton North) singled to lead off the inning and went to second on an error. Two hitters later Misco went to third on a single by Blake. Blake stole second and then Haider walked to load the bases. Misco and Blake scored on a single by Brugman to make it a 6-0 game. Another run came home on a single from Clark. The scoring closed out when Brugman came in to score on a bases loaded walk to Alison Wainionpaa (Superior, Wis./Superior Senior).

Blake had three hits in the game, while Brugman and Wilke each had two to pace the Yellowjackets, who had 11 hits in the game. Blake and Haider each scored twice and Wilke drove in three to lead the way offensively for the Yellowjackets.

The Yellowjackets (13-4) will play WIAC rival UW-Platteville in their first game on Friday, before taking on Alfred University from New York.
