Box Score

Superior 85, Northland 20

In a season where the UW-Superior women's basketball team set a new standard for consecutive wins, the Yellowjackets doubled-down on their record-setting performances for 2014-15 during their non-conference contest with Northland College Tuesday evening.

Putting together their finest defensive effort of the season, the Yellowjackets set or equaled a pair of school records in an 85-20 win over the Lumberjills at Mertz Mortorelli Gymnasium.

UW-Superior set a new record for fewest points allowed while also matching the school mark for margin of victory on the way to improving to 12-5 for the season. Northland meanwhile dropped their fifth straight game to fall to 2-12 on the campaign.

The Yellowjackets scored eight of the first 10 points to take an 8-2 advantage on a Desirae Sarver (Washburn, Wis./Washburn) layup with 16:03 left in the first half.

A pair of inside scores from Justine Larson (Stanchfield, Minn./Cambridge-Isanti) and Bailee Bartunek (Audobon, Minn./Lake Park-Audobon) made it a 17-6 score before two jumpers from Jade Tucker (White Bear Lake, Minn./White Bear Lake Area) and an additional hoop by Katie White (Pequot Lakes, Minn./Peguot Lakes) gave UW-Superior a 23-6 edge.

From there, the Yellowjackets outscored Northland 16-8 over the final 6:49 to take a 39-14 lead into the intermission.

UW-Superior continued their surge in the second half, scoring the first 21 points of the frame for a 60-14 lead with 10:49 on the way to outscoring Northland 46-6 for the frame.

The Yellowjackets had five players score in double-figures led by Sarver and Molly Atherton (Blaine, Minn./Blaine) with 12 points each. Sally Linzmeier (Valders, Wis./Valders) added 11 points while Hadley Skalmoski (Neenah, Wis./Neenah) and Abby Clemons (Superior, Wis./Superior Senior) each had 10 points for UW-Superior.

Northland was led by Briana Tody with seven points.

UW-Superior returns to action at UW-Whitewater on Saturday. Opening tip against the Warhawks from Kachel Gymnasium is scheduled for 3 p.m.
