The Yellowjacket volleyball team faced UMAC foe Bethany Lutheran Saturday, looking to get back in the win column after a string of losses. This match was also senior day for the Yellowjacket volleyball team as they honored lone senior Stephanie Bandelin (Esko, Minn./Esko) before the match. The Yellowjackets did not disappoint on senior day, sweeping Bethany Lutheran for the second time this season, winning the match 25-16, 25-11, 25-23.

The first set was never in doubt as the Yellowjackets led wire-to-wire. With Ana Biscaia (Curitiba, Brazil/Colégio Positivo) serving, the Yellowjackets scored the first three points of the set. The Yellowjackets followed that up with a 4-1 run, capped off by an Emily VerWay (Inver Grove Heights, Minn./Simley) service ace, to take a 7-2 lead. Bethany Lutheran was never able to get any closer than three points as the Yellowjackets coasted to a set victory to take a 1-0 lead.

The second set saw Bethany Lutheran take an early 2-1 lead, before the Yellowjackets went on an 11-2 run to take command of the set 12-4. The set was all Yellowjackets, as they cruised to a 25-11 set victory that was capped by an Ashlee Bayer (Cameron, Wis./Cameron) kill.

Bethany Lutheran looked to try and steal the third set from the Yellowjackets, as they built an early 9-6 lead. The teams exchanged points, before the Yellowjackets recaptured the lead 15-14 on an Alexis Landherr (Cambridge, Minn./Cambridge-Isanti) service ace. The Yellowjackets then built a lead of their own, going on a 4-0 run to take a 19-15 lead. Bethany Lutheran stormed back to within one with a 3-0 run of their own. Both teams began exchanging points back and forth before Bethany Lutheran was able to tie it up at 23-23. The Yellowjackets closed out the set and match, scoring the final two points en route to a 25-23 set victory and a 3-0 match victory.

Bandelin paced the Yellowjacket offense with 12 kills. She also had six digs from the defensive side.

Bayer had eight kills for the Yellowjackets and Anna Hendrix (Crystal, Minn./Robbinsdale Cooper) had five kills on seven attacks for a .714 attack percentage.

Emily VerWay (Inver Grove Heights, Minn./Simley) was her usual self, leading the team with 29 set assists while adding 12 digs on defense. Karlie Leif (Bemidji, Minn./Bemidji) led the Yellowjackets with 13 digs.

The Yellowjackets had a team attack percentage of .237. Bethany Lutheran's team attack percentage was .018.

Next up for the Yellowjackets (17-13, 5-2 UMAC) is a trip down I-35 Saturday, October 31 to face UMAC foe North Central University in Minneapolis, Minn. Game time is set for 1:00 p.m.
