Yellowjackets Sweep Crown, Win Fourth Straight

Box Score

Yellowjackets 3, Crown 0

The Yellowjacket volleyball team went on the road Friday to take on UMAC foe Crown College.  It was a quick turnaround between games for the Yellowjackets, as they had just defeated rival St. Scholastica in a comeback two nights earlier.

The lack of rest between games did not make a difference as the Yellowjackets dominated the Storm, sweeping the match 3-0 by set scores of 25-14, 25-16, and 25-14.

The first set started quickly as the Yellowjackets jumped out to a 3-0 lead behind two kills from Stephanie Bandelin (Esko, Minn./Esko). The Yellowjackets used this initial run, as well as a 5-0 run and two 3-0 runs as they cruised to a 25-14 first set win.

The second set started out much like the first, with the Yellowjackets taking a 4-1 lead off of an Emily VerWay (Inver Grove Heights, Minn./Simley) kill. Crown then fought back to tie up the set at 6-6, but it was the Yellowjackets set from there as they reeled off five of the next six points to make it 11-7. The Storm never got closer than three points the rest of the way as the Yellowjackets used a 10-1 run to put the set out of reach and take a commanding 2-0 lead.

The third set was never in doubt, as the Yellowjackets never trailed. The Yellowjackets had runs of 3-0, 4-0, and 3-0 as they coasted in with a 25-14 set and a 3-0 match.

Bandelin paced the Yellowjackets offense with 14 kills on 20 attacks while contributing seven digs on defense. Bailey Romans (Duluth, Minn./East) had a very solid game with 12 kills and two blocks. Emily VerWay (Inver Grove Heights, Minn./Simley) had 27 set assists and 13 digs to lead the Yellowjackets in both categories.

Ashlee Bayer (Cameron, Wis./Cameron) had eight kills and three blocks, while Mackenzie Dahlin (Kaukauna, Wis./Kaukauna) led the team with five service aces. Dahlin also contributed seven digs defensively for the Yellowjackets.

The Yellowjackets had a team attack percentage of .344, while Crown's attack percentage was. 100.

The Yellowjackets (15-7, 4-1 UMAC) next match is October 10, when they travel to St. Peter, Minn. for a non-conference matchup against Gustavus Adolphus College. The match is set for 2:00 p.m.
