Linzmeier Named Academic All-American

2/24/2015 11:58:00 AM

The 2014-15 season has been a record-setting season to remember for the Yellowjacket women's basketball team, and individually for Sally Linzmeier (Valders, Wis./Valders). Earlier this season Linzmeier smashed the school's all-time scoring record, and now, she is being honored for her work off the court.

For the second time this month the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) has honored the Yellowjacket senior guard. Today it was announced that Linzmeier has been named a Capital One Academic All-American. Linzmeier, who has been named to the second team, becomes the first Yellowjacket ever to receive an Academic All-American honor from CoSIDA.

Earlier in February, Linzmeier was named a Capital One Academic All-District by CoSIDA, becoming the second Yellowjacket to ever receive that honor and opening the door for her to receive the Academic All-American honor. Student-athletes cannot be named Academic All-American without first being named Academic All-Region.

The honor is the highest academic honor that a collegiate student-athlete can receive.

"Words cannot express how excited I am for Sally and how proud I am of Sally," Yellowjacket Head Coach Don Mulhern said. "People have used a lot of superlatives over the years, and rightly so, to talk about her exploits on the court, and I'm proud of that. But this honor is tremendous, and speaks more about the person that Sally is. I have never seen a student-athlete work harder at her game and her academics like Sally does."

Linzmeier is majoring in math education with minor in Spanish. She has been named a WIAC Scholar Athlete three times in her career and has been named to the Dean's List at UW-Superior. To date, Linzmeier has a grade point average of 3.76.
