Yellowjackets 90, Crown College 41
The Yellowjacket women's basketball team was in action Sunday night to take on Crown College. Coming into the game with a six game winning streak, the Yellowjackets were looking to push that streak to seven by the time the final buzzer sounded.

This matchup was all Yellowjackets, as they never trailed en route to a 90-41 victory.

The Yellowjackets opened up this game quickly, taking a 6-0 lead in the first minute of the game. Crown fought back to close the gap to 10-8 with 5:02 remaining in the first quarter. The Yellowjackets closed out the quarter on a 10-6 run, capped by an Amelia Leger (Andover, Minn./Andover) jumper, to take a 20-14 lead heading into the first break.

The second quarter saw Crown cut the Yellowjacket lead down to two with a pair of jumpers. The Yellowjackets followed this up with a 14-2 run over the next four minutes, capped by an Amber Zimpel (Isle, Minn./Isle) 3-pointer, as the Yellowjackets took a 34-20 lead. A Justine Larson (Stanchfield, Minn./Cambridge-Isanti) layup as time expired sent the Yellowjackets into the break in control of the game with a 41-26 lead.

The Yellowjackets saw their lead balloon to 54-26 as they opened the third quarter on a 13-0 run. Crown hit a jumper at 5:19 to break the run, but the Yellowjackets went on another 13-0 run to close out the quarter. The Yellowjackets outscored Crown 26-2 in the third quarter as they built a 67-28 lead going into the final break.

With the game firmly in hand, Yellowjacket Coach Don Mulhern was able to get valuable experience for many of his reserves in the fourth quarter. The Yellowjackets sent 14 players into the game, with all of them scoring at least one point as they stretched their winning streak to seven games.

Larson followed up her career night against Morris with another strong game, finishing with 15 points, three assists, and two steals.

Allyssa Lindberg (Marquette, Mich./Marquette) finished with 12 points and five rebounds, while Ceanne Harrison (Wabeno, Wis./Wabeno) also had 12 points, which is a new career high. Hailey Kontny (Superior, Wis./Superior) chipped in 11 points for the Yellowjackets.

Crown was led by Kayla Carter, who had eight points and four rebounds off the bench.

The Yellowjackets shot 52.4% from the field, going 6-15 from beyond the 3-point arc, hitting 18-28 from the free throw line.

Crown shot 28.6% from the field, going 1-14 from beyond the 3-point arc, while hitting 4-11 from the free throw line.

The Yellowjackets finished with 15 turnovers. Crown had 21.

The Yellowjackets (10-2, 5-0 UMAC) will be back in action Saturday, January 9 when they host bridge rival St. Scholastica. Game time from Mertz Mortorelli Gymnasium is set for 5:00 p.m.
