Box Score Yellowjackets 66, Northland 45Â
Normally when one says lucky number 13 they are doing it tongue-in-cheek. Lucky number 13 has a different meaning for the Yellowjacket women's basketball team now, after they went on the road Friday night to defeat Northland College and push their winning streak to 13 games.
The game did not start out quite the way the Yellowjackets envisioned, as they saw themselves down 5-4 with 8:15 remaining in the first quarter. A
Hailey Kontny (Superior, Wis./Superior) layup on the Yellowjackets next possession started a 10-0 run over the next five minutes that saw the one point deficit shift to a 14-5 lead. The Yellowjackets then closed the half out on an 11-6 run to go into the first break with a commanding 25-11 lead.
The Yellowjackets watched their lead grow in the second quarter, as a
Hannah Norlin (Litchffield, Minn./Litchfield) layup with 4:25 remaining pushed the Yellowjacket lead to 34-14. The Yellowjackets would go on to outscore the Lumberjills 14-6 in the quarter as they went into halftime with a 39-17 lead.
The second half was more of the same for the Yellowjackets. The lead grew to 52-22 on a
Sarah Lekson (North Branch, Minn./North Branch) layup and free throw with 4:22 remaining in the third quarter. With a commanding lead, the Yellowjackets were able to show off their depth, as many of the reserves saw extended playing time throughout both the third and fourth quarters. By the time the final buzzer sounded, the Yellowjackets had soundly defeated the Lumberjills by a score of 66-45.
